26th Sept. - a special day for Marlborough
July 29, 2009
St John’s School in Marlborough is trying to contact the ex-students and staff who attended St John’s School from 1975, Marlborough Grammar School from 1962, or Marlborough Secondary Modern School from 1965, to invite them to a last chance to visit the school buildings before they are demolished, and also to ask if they have any items of memorabilia to lend to the school for an exhibition on the day.
The new St John’s school building is now nearing completion and students will move in later this year. After the move the two existing school sites will be demolished. So many people have contacted the school to enquire whether they can have one last look around the school buildings that the school has decided to open up both its Orchard Road and Choppingknife Lane sites to all ex-students and staff on Saturday 26 September 10am-5pm.
There will also be an exhibition of old photos, trophies and other memorabilia, and there may well be opportunities for people to own a part of the old school!
Groups will be able to book a room for a class reunion during the day. The St John’s PTA, the Family & Friends, will be providing refreshments and the school also hopes to record people’s memories of the school for later publication along with a photographic record of the buildings’ histories.
Anyone wanting more information about the day or who has old school memorabilia to lend to the school for the day should register their interest by email on reunion@stjohns.wilts.sch.uk
