Students celebrate achievement

July 19, 2009

Yesterday evening, in a hall packed with proud parents, school governors and staff, fifty St John’s students were presented with awards celebrating their achievements over the last year.

The Governors Awards Ceremony was held at the St John’s Upper School and focused on the school’s younger students in Years 7-9.

Dr Hazlewood welcomed the audience and thanked sponsors Crest Nicholson for their support. He told the audience:

“St John’s has seen some excellent individual achievements by students this year, and we remain committed to high achievement and inclusion for all”.

The guest speaker was Mr Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, British businessman and farmer who founded “The Black Farmer®” range of foods having moved into farming following a career in TV production. He spoke to students about achieving success in their future lives.

The prizewinning students were presented with inscribed books by Headteacher Dr Hazlewood and Chair of Governors Mrs Diana Trickey.

Additionally, special awards for achievement in the form of a gift voucher and a trophy were presented, including the “St John’s Family & Friends Awards for an outstanding contribution to school life”, the Headteacher’s award for achievement, and the Governors’ awards for progress. The students who received the “Sportswear International award for sport” were presented with a tracksuit kindly donated by the sponsor.

Guests were entertained with various performances from students and refreshments were provided by the school’s PTA, the St John’s Family & Friends.
