Art Galleries- Bowmoore Gallery
History of Bowmoore Gallery The Gallery started life when I moved with my large family to Whelford near Fairford Glos. I had already had antique shops where there was a heavy art influence and now I just concentrated on paintings, as the family started to leave home I decided to move back to London and opened Bowmoore Gallery in Halkin Arcade Motcomb Street Belgravia.
During my time there I had several exhibitions the Largest and most important being “Women in Art” which we coincided with the launch of “A Biographical Dictionary of Women Artists in Europe and America since 1980" written and researched by Dr Penny Dunford, this was incredibly successful with an attendance of 2000 visitors on the opening night.
I have always felt that women artists were rather neglected and it was a joy to hold this exhibition , as Penny Dunford so rightly said, “ask any one in the street to name five male artists and they have no problem, ask them to name five women artists and they struggle” This does not mean that I am only interested in women artists, there are many male artists that I admire and I always have a good selection of their work, but I am also very keen to promote women artists.
During my time in London (16 years) I also had an interest in The Hurlingham Gallery, The New Kings Road Gallery, and lastly The Gallery on Lots Road, when the lease expired on Lots Road, and I realised just how enormous the new rent was going to be I decided that the time had come to leave London, and I moved to Marlborough and had Bowmoore Gallery in the London Road for nearly 7 years, a joy to be able to sell paintings at a much more realistic price as the overheads were minimal compared to London., I had hoped to continue in London Road for many more years, but unfortunately the onset of Rheumatoid arthritis made life very difficult and I decided to close the gallery and work from home, where I continue to promote living artists and also buy and sell mainly 20th century British artists.
Originally in London Road, Marlborough, we are now working from home (Manton) and on line. www.bowmooregallery.com with mainly contemporary and Modern British paintings c 1900 onwards. Visitors are very welcome by appointment 01672514817 from 10am 7 days a week. email bowmoore@onetel.net
